How is an IBAN calculated? The national account number (BBAN) is built from the bank code and account number, then the two IBAN check digits are computed with ISO 13616 MOD-97: move the country code and 00 to the end, turn letters into numbers and take 98 minus the remainder modulo 97.
Does the calculator add national check digits? Yes. Where a country publishes a method (the French clé RIB, the Italian CIN, Spanish control digits and others) the calculator computes it; otherwise enter the digits printed on the bank document.
Is a calculated IBAN guaranteed to work? It is correct only if the bank details you typed are correct. Confirm the IBAN with the account holder or the bank before paying, and check it in the IBAN validator to see the bank and BIC.
